The Annual General Meeting of the Bailliage National de Malte was held on Wednesday 20th April 2022 at Torri Lanzun, Mensija, San Gwann.

Once again the Grand Commandery of the Order of St. Lazarus of Jerusalem allowed us to use Torri Lanzun and the historical Knights Hall for which we are always very grateful.  It is ideal for a meeting like ours as it includes full catering facilities for the customary reception which follows the meeting.

It was a pleasure to be able to hold the meeting in person for the first time in two years. Our Bailli Délégué Dr. Joseph Xuereb, Chancellier and Argentier Mr. Charles Gatt, Conseiller Culinaire Mr. Marc Besancon, and Echanson Dr. Ramiro Cali-Corleo all addressed the gathered members regarding the previous years' activities, which, although curtailed because of COVID, were enjoyed by all. The activities included a dinner at the Corinthia Palace in July, an alfresco dinner at the Hilton in September, the traditional Sunday lunch at Ta Frenc in October in Gozo, and our St. Nicholas’ dinner at the Phoenicia in December.

Unfortunately, the pandemic curtailed our 40th Anniversary activities.  The special Patronal dinner held last December at the Phoenicia Hotel doubled up as an occasion to commemorate the anniversary. In the circumstances, we will consider the Grand Chapitre being held this year as an extension of the anniversary.

We maintained our annual donation to the Order of St Lazarus and also made another donation to Inspire, a local foundation that helps individuals with disabilities.

One of the highlights of the year was the elevation of our Bailli Délégué Joseph to a member of the esteemed Conseil Magistral.  We were delighted with the announcement and are proud that Joseph has brought additional recognition to the Malta Bailliage.

Regarding OMGD activities we intend to hold 2 events this year. The first will be focused on Brandy and planned for Saturday, 4th June. We also have a new OMGD banner and logo.

Members were encouraged to attend International events and relate their experiences to the rest of the members through articles on the website.

Following the meeting, as is always the case, a standing reception was held and this was a great success. Excellent finger foods were supplied by ZEST outside catering and of course, the wine flowed!
